Great Church, VERY Welcoming. My kids love it. The pastor is down to earth. Its not stuffy and intimidating like some churches. They seem genuinely concerned with reaching their community. The take the Gospel very seriously but not so much themselves.

This is a place filled with fakes.
I started going to oak grove in 2011 when I was at a very low point in my life. I felt lost and wanted friends who were not in the party life. I was greeted with open arms and smiling faces which felt amazing. Over the years I began to get very involved with the church as I was told I should be Christ like and Christ gave his life for the church. I truly loved what I did though.
After a few years my studies led me to those less "topical" questions of who was Jesus?, what is the gospel?, what does the gospel say?... to who constructed the Bible?, was Christianity the oldest religion?, how were the books of the Bible chosen?, why does the Bible have so many technical contradictions?, why if God is all knowing did he create Satan to begin with?, why if god is so good did he not give a better and more clear warning to the naive and innocent Adam and Eve?.. when my shift began I was confronted with hostility from the very people I called friends. This shook me on a catastrophic level. I was told by the charismatic business man who leads the congregation each Sunday, Aaron, that we could no longer be friends because I no longer believe.
I've always thought atheists and agnostics were evil on some level. But now I see the true evil. It's those who guilt you into believing you are a terrible person and threaten you with eternal hell if you don't believe and confess it daily. Mental abuse and emotional manipulation is what you'll find here. I can't say all christians or even Christianity is "bad". It's what you do with the power and how you treat people who aren't the same as you.
Even before my journey began and I was very much in love with Jesus (yes, this can change) I noticed the two-sides of the "in crowd". The church has no clear direction to those not in this crowd. Yet, I was privy to knowing they got their example from another church in New York. When I first started going to Oak Grove I was confused as to why people were leaving and was told by church leaders (my "friends") that those people didn't like the direction the church was going.
You may never be on the same journey as me and our paths may never cross but I know Christians who have left Oak Grove. I wish they'd speak up as to why.Added January 09, 2017 by Mo Q - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I love the people of this church. Their passion to see people come to know God and their willingness to do whatever it takes to teach the truths of the Bible in a way we can understand and apply.
There are so many amazing people! If you have questions about God or are looking for a church that takes the teachings of Jesus seriously and wants to follow them, you should come see for yourself.
You can connect with other attendees during the week in groups that meet in homes and share what God is teaching them.Added December 20, 2016 by Jason DeGraaff - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
My husband and I started going here in 2014 and quickly found the people here to be genuinely interested in our lives. We've grown to love them and appreciate the insight they have into following Jesus and encouraging us to do the same. When they say "come as you are" they mean it. They take the time to make sure that the Bible is easy to understand and want everyone to discover what it means to follow Jesus. No matter what your past or your choices, you have a place at this church.

I've been attending Oak Grove for almost 7 years now, and been on staff for almost 6 years. This church is the reason I moved to Kansas City. I visited the church from out of town, and when I saw the way they were training people to grow in their faith , I knew that's what I wanted for my life. So I started praying and looking for a job in KC. I found a job, moved here, and have loved it. I have been challenged regularly, loved deeply, and grown closer to God every year. I met my wife here, my best friends here, and continue to meet great people here. God has truly blessed my life in the time that I've spent at this church.
Something I love about the church is it's commitment to growth as a whole. This church is not satisfied in the status quo. They want growth both corporately and individually. If you're looking for that, please come check it out. Consider this your invitation.Added July 29, 2016 by Alex Patton
